The good weather is here and that means it is the perfect time for outdoor activities again. However, having fun while being considerate of the environment is important so let’s think about some eco friendly outdoor activities you can do in Canterbury.
Exploring the countryside. I like to think of the Canterbury countryside as a hidden gem, because it is a beautiful area but not many people know about it. You can easily get there if you walk through the Dane John gardens, you pass Canterbury castle and walk straight for another three minutes. Then, you will see a river and a bridge. Just go underneath the bridge, go up the hill and take a left and you will shortly be amazed by the beauty of the country side. There is a path along a river and you can walk for miles. It seems endless to me because the longest I’ve ever walked on that path was nine kilometers and the path was not even close to end. You can go there for a walk, for a run, you can walk your dog there and even stop to read. The air is very fresh and if you are lucky you might even see sheep, horses and cows.
Bird watching. You can go to Dane John gardens, take a seat on a bench and just enjoy the sunshine. What I like to do is bring a coffee (don’t forget it is a lot more sustainable to bring your coffee in a reusable mug rather than in a plastic cup) and watch the birds and squirrels, it is so relaxing.
Picnics. Picnics are always fun, I truly love eating outdoors. Picnics will take you to Dane John gardens again, because they have nice picnic tables set up. If you prefer to do it the old fashioned way, feel free to bring a blanket and have a picnic on the grass. Also, picnics don’t have to be fancy, even a sandwich and an apple for example can count as picnic material.
So? What are you waiting for? Have some fun outdoors and share your pictures with us using the #cccusustainability hashtag when you upload them on social media.
